Calvert Retracts Form Demand

SCOTT WOODRUFF Contact attorney for Maryland

A Calvert County public schools representative sent a letter to an HSLDA member telling her that she “must” complete and submit a form in preparation for a coming portfolio review.

After the member asked us for guidance, we sent a letter to the representative explaining that the Maryland homeschool regulations do not require families to fill out any type of form related to a portfolio review. We also pointed out that Regulation F prohibits schools from imposing their own idiosyncratic requirements on homeschool families.

The representative took our letter to heart. She followed up with the member, retracted the demand, and apologized.
