Action Needed to Stop Common Core!

Homeschooling in Michigan.

Please call your state legislators!

HSLDA staff attorney Mike Donnelly helps protect homeschool freedom in your community.

Dear Michigan Members and Friends,

Your calls are working! Last month, the Michigan Legislature successfully amended the House and Senate education budget bills (House Bill 5314/Senate Bill 765) which would limit the state’s implementation of the Common Core by delaying the use of federally funded tests. These bills now include language which would postpone the use of the Common Core tests by prohibiting the Department of Education from funding any test but the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) for the next two years. This is critical to the fight against Common Core!

If these tests are adopted, they will strongly discourage the use of any curriculum that is not specifically aligned to the Common Core standards. Your help is needed to support these bills and delay the implementation of these tests in Michigan!

Action Requested

Please contact your state senator and representative and give them the following message in your own words:

“Please support HB 5314 and SB 765 which delay implementation of the SMARTER tests by directing the Department of Education to only fund the MEAP. The SMARTER tests discourage creativity in teaching as teachers are encouraged to ‘teach to the test.’ The SMARTER test is part of the Common Core that creates a de-facto national educational system. SMARTER testing requirements also undermine local control of education and move education decision-making away from parents and local communities where it should be. Please oppose the SMARTER testing requirements and support the current language delaying funding in HB 5581/SB 775.”

Thank you for all you do in defense of freedom for families in the great state of Michigan!

Very truly yours,

Michael P. Donnelly, Esq.
