Continue to Fight to Protect Parental Freedom
Dear Colorado Members and Friends,
House Bill (HB) 1288, which changes the immunization personal exemption requirements, is continuing to move through the Colorado Legislature. The bill passed the Health, Insurance and Environment Committee last Thursday with a 9-2 roll call vote. HB 1288 requires families to “certify” that they are informed about immunizations before being able to claim a personal exemption.
The bill is waiting to have a second reading by the full House and can either be heard March 20 or March 21. Please take a moment now to contact the committee members below, especially if you are their constituent.
Meanwhile, Senate Bill 32, which restores the right of parents to choose an alternative health care provider for their children at any age, passed the Senate last week and will soon be considered by the House! The bill was assigned to the House Health, Insurance, and Environment Committee and will be considered on Thursday, April 3.
For House Bill 1288, contact your representative today and give him or her the following messages in your own words:
“I am calling to oppose House Bill 1288 that would require parents to receive a certification of knowledge before obtaining a personal belief exemption to immunization. Parents with personal objections to immunizations should not be interfered with in order to exercise their freedom to make appropriate medical decisions for their children. Parents can decide what is best for their families without burdensome government requirements or intervention like this. Please vote against HB 1288.”
For Senate Bill 32, contact the House Health, Insurance and Environment Committee and urge them to support and urge them to vote support SB 32. Give them the following messages in your own words:
“I am calling to support Senate Bill 32. This bill restores a parent’s ability to choose health care providers for their children. Parents have a fundamental right to make decisions concerning the care of their children. SB 32 allows parents to make these decisions and recognizes their parental rights. Please vote in favor of SB 32.”
You can contact the members of the committee using the following contact information:
Representative McCann, Chair House Health Committee
Representative Schafer, Vice Chair House Health
Thank you for all you do in defense of freedom for families in the great state of Colorado!
Very truly yours,
