Keep Contacting School Board, Attend Wednesday Meeting

Homeschooling in Virginia

Help protect religious freedom.

Senior Counsel Scott Woodruff answers questions and assists members with legal issues in your state. He and his wife homeschooled their children.

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends in Buckingham County:

With the school board meeting in just two days (March 12), please continue your efforts to protect religious freedom in Buckingham County!

Superintendent Snead insists that he has a right to question your children about their faith. We must strengthen our message to the Buckingham County School Board.

Action Requested

1. Husbands and wives, if you have not done so already, please separately call the school board member for your district (see instructions below). Each of your voices is entitled to be heard. Please give your board member this message:

“I live in your district. Under state law, the school board alone makes decisions about religious exemption issues. The superintendent has no role. We have a right for religious exemption issues to be handled by the board only. Please instruct Superintendent Snead to stop trying to question our children.”

2. Please come to the school board meeting March 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the “window room” of the Buckingham County Career and Technical Education Center at 98 Fanny White Road. When you arrive, sign up to speak during the “public comments” section. When you speak, tell the board the simple message above. If 100 people stand and speak the same message to the board, it will have an impact! Some dads may not be able to take off work and attend. Moms, please come if you possibly can. It’s fine to bring well-behaved children. I plan to be there, too!

3. Do you have a phone number for Thomas Hutcherson, the District 6 school board representative? If so, please let me know.

Click on this link and enter the information requested, including your ZIP code. Click “search.” On the next page, click on the little plus next to “Districts.” The menu will expand. You will see an entry that says “Election.” The number to the right of “Election” is your school board election district number. Here are the names and contact information for each board member by district number.

On Saturday I mailed a three-page letter to every school board member explaining why they should instruct Superintendent Snead to stop interfering in the board’s religious exemption duties. When you call your board member, you add the power of your voice to this message!

Thank you for standing with us for freedom!
