Keep Calling—HCR 11 in
Trouble but More Action Needed

Homeschooling in Michigan

Your calls are working.

HSLDA staff attorney Mike Donnelly helps protect homeschool freedom in your community.

Dear Michigan Members and Friends,

Your calls to oppose HCR 11 are working! Now, proponents are “shopping” the resolution to “friendly” committees. We have information that the resolution has now been placed in the Government Operations Committee—even after the Appropriations Committee heard three hours of testimony on the resolution yesterday. HCR 11 would allow the state Department of Education to spend money implementing Common Core Standards, including federally controlled SMARTER tests.

Please call the Government Operations Committee and ask them to oppose HCR 11 and the SMARTER test requirements.

Action Requested

Please contact your own senator and the members of the Senate Government Operations Committee and give them the following message in your own words:

“Please vote to oppose HCR 11 or amend it to remove the requirement for federally controlled SMARTER tests. These tests facilitate the increasing federalization of education with the potential to infringe upon the liberty of all parents to direct the education of their children. Please vote to amend HCR 11 or oppose the bill if it is not amended.”

You can find the contact information for your own senator online.

Here is the contact information for the members of the Government Operations Committee:

Randy Richardville (Committee Chair)
(517) 373-3543

Dave Hildenbrand (Majority Vice Chair)
(517) 373-1801

Arlan B. Meekhof
(517) 373-6920

Gretchen Whitmer (Minority Vice Chair)

Tupac A. Hunter

Have You Ever Yelled into the Wind, Only to Hear the Sound of Your Voice Blown back at You?

It’s hard to be heard in the midst of a storm. Trying to influence federal legislation is much like yelling to be heard while standing in a fierce wind. Yet when 80,000 voices join together, they become a powerful force that cannot be drowned out. Join HSLDA to be heard above the tempests that threaten homeschool freedoms.
