Calls Needed to “Cross the Aisle” for Parental Rights

Homeschooling in West Virginia

Please call today!

Will Estrada has been leading our efforts to defend homeschooling on Capitol Hill since 2006. As the oldest of eight kids, and a homeschool graduate who married a homeschool graduate, he has a passion for protecting homeschool freedom.

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:

We need your help to reach out to Senator Joe Manchin about becoming a cosponsor of the Parental Rights Amendment in the U.S. Senate.

If the Parental Rights Amendment is to pass, sooner or later we will have to “cross the aisle”—we must have support from both major parties. Nevada’s recent adoption of a new parental rights statute, which was sponsored by a Democrat and passed smoothly through a Democrat-dominated legislature, is a very good sign. But that doesn’t always carry to Capitol Hill.

We are putting the finishing touches on preparations to introduce the PRA in the Senate, but we want to be sure of a strong bipartisan showing. Senator Manchin is an influential Democrat senator who has shown interest in the Amendment in the past, making him an ideal early cosponsor.

Please take a moment right now to call Senator Manchin’s office and encourage him to become an original cosponsor of the Parental Rights Amendment. His D.C. phone number is 202-224-3954.

If your schedule allows, please drop by a district office or his D.C. office over the next few days, as well. (You can find addresses at his website here.)

When you speak to his staff, you might say something like the following (in your own words):

“I am calling to encourage Senator Manchin to support the Parental Rights Amendment in the Senate. The recent passage of a strong parental rights statute by a Democrat-dominated legislature in Nevada shows that parents’ rights should not be a Republicans-only issue as it has been in D.C. I hope Senator Manchin will work with members of both parties to preserve America's traditional respect for family privacy and parental rights.”

As you are making your calls, we are reaching out to his office as well. Together we will be able to secure your senator’s important support for this vital Amendment.

Thank you for taking the time and energy to help the PRA take this crucial step “across the aisle.”

Very truly yours,

Will Estrada
