This bill would delete from state law the provision permitting a parent to withdraw a 5-year-old child from public kindergarten and to wait until the child is 6 before being re-enrolled. This bill would remove the right of a parent to remove a child that the parent did not believe was ready for formal instruction. HSLDA believes that parents, not the state, should determine when a child is mature enough to attend school.
