Senate Bill 124: Compulsory Attendance Age Expansion
Sponsors:
Sen. Keaveny
Summary:

This bill would lower the compulsory attendance age in Saint Louis from 7 to 5. Although this bill is written in such a manner that it ostensibly wouldn't apply to families that intend to homeschool, there is no method provided in the statute for evaluating if a family does actually intend to homeschool. This bill will result in harassment for families in Saint Louis who don't put their 5- and 6-year-old children in public school, and is the first step in lowering the compulsory attendance age for children throughout the state.
