LD 1131 An Act To Create Education Savings Accounts for Maine Students
Sponsors:
Representative Jeffery Hanley
Summary:

This bill would establish an Education Savings Account program for Maine students. While this bill was drafted with the intention of not inserting home instruction into this program—which is good—it accomplishes this my using the phrase “home-schooled”, which is an undefined phrase. In Maine, what is commonly called “home schooling” is technically called “home instruction.”

We are seeking to amend the bill to remove the undefined word “home-schooled” (while keeping home instruction families out of the program). We oppose the bill until this change is made.
