Group Discount Program

Section I. - Introduction
The Group Discount Program was established to encourage and promote home schooling support groups by offering their members HSLDA services at a discount. Individual families who belong to an HSLDA discount group save 17% on our membership fee, paying $95 instead of $115.

Group Discount Requirements

  1. Enroll a minimum of 10 HSLDA member families (we do not require all support group members to join HSLDA);
  2. Maintain an enrollment/membership list;
  3. Have regular communication (at least twice a year) with your families via newsletter, personal letters, or meetings, etc.; and
  4. Make HSLDA membership materials available to your families.

Section II. - Getting Started

Startup Needs
You will need funds for postage, a Group Discount Administrator to handle paperwork, and 10 families who either are applying or are already members of HSLDA.

Get the Word Out
Inform your group of the discount plan opportunity and determine if there are 10 interested families. If you do not immediately find 10 interested families, don't be discouraged. You may simply need to wait awhile and try again.

Enrolling Your Group Discount Members

  1. Divide your list of interested families into the following two categories:
    1. Current HSLDA members - Provide each HSLDA member with the Enrollment Form to fill out and return to you. (Master closed-photocopy for distribution to your group.) Members do not need to send a check until renewal time. The 17% discount will appear on their next annual HSLDA renewal form.
    2. Applying HSLDA members - Distribute an HSLDA application to each family interested in HSLDA membership. Ask them to fill it out and return it to you with a check for $95, payable to HSLDA. Note: We cannot accept one check for the whole group since each family is individually accepted into membership.
  2. Send the following completed forms to HSLDA, Attn. Group Discount Coordinator:
    1. Membership Roll,
    2. Group Discount Information Form, and
    3. An Enrollment Form or HSLDA application for each of the families listed on the Membership Roll.
  3. Approximately three weeks after we receive the above information, we will send a confirmation letter with your confidential Group Discount number and additional information. Note: We must receive all requested forms before we can approve your group for the discount.
Important: If you are unable to procure 10 families, notify your group immediately and return applications and checks to each family. Please do not hold any applications for more than one month!

Section III. - Group Maintenance
(After Your Group Has Been Approved For The Discount)

New HSLDA Applicants
New families applying for HSLDA membership under your group discount should send their applications and $95 payment directly to HSLDA. Please pre-enter your Group Discount number on the HSLDA applications you provide to your families.

Current HSLDA Members
HSLDA members who switch from another discount group to your discount group need to do one of the following:

  1. Fill out a new Enrollment Form and return it directly to HSLDA, or
  2. Indicate the change on their annual HSLDA Membership Renewal Form. (HSLDA sends Renewal Forms directly to members; group leaders do not need to process them.)
Membership Reports
HSLDA will send your Group Discount Administrator membership reports in May and November. Your HSLDA families will be listed by name, membership number, membership fee due date, and zip code. When you receive each membership report, please do the following:
  1. Cross through families who are no longer part of your group.
  2. List families who are HSLDA members, but are missing from our list. Provide us with their name, HSLDA membership number, and phone number.
  3. Make all corrections in writing directly on the membership report.
  4. Keep a photocopy of all corrections for your records.
  5. Return by the date specified on your report. Failure to return report may result in loss of Group Discount status.
Grace Period
If your discount group drops to fewer than 10 families who are members of HSLDA, you will be given a three-month grace period in which to regain the minimum level of 10 member families. If your group fails to meet the 10-family membership minimum by the end of the grace period, your group will lose its Group Discount status.
