Loudoun County Drops Required Subjects for Homeschoolers

An HSLDA member pointed out to us that the website for Loudoun County Public Schools stated that “at a minimum, reading and mathematics must be included” as subjects in a homeschool student’s curriculum.

We contacted a school system representative and pointed out that there are no required subjects under the Virginia home instruction statute. Reading and math are worthy subjects, but the choice of subjects belongs to the parents, not the state or the local school system.

The representative promptly corrected the information on the website and deleted any reference to required subjects.
