School Districts Require Families to Fill out Unnecessary Forms

An HSLDA member family in Bushland, and another in Schertz, withdrew their students from public school in order to homeschool them. In both districts, public school officials insisted that the families fill out a homeschool notification form that the public school would provide in order to continue their home education program. Each family received a packet with forms enclosed.

Both families contacted HSLDA to find out if these forms were necessary. Home School Legal Defense Association staff informed the families that no notification or registration of a homeschool program is required.

HSLDA sent letters to the school districts assuring them that the homeschool families were following the state laws for homeschooling and would not be filling out the forms that the school provided since they are not required by law.

Neither family has heard from the public school since.
