School District Seeks Unnecessary Information

A school district in Texas recently required homeschoolers to provide specific information regarding each child being homeschooled. This included the last school attended by the child and the curriculum used by the family. Homeschoolers do not have to provide this information in Texas.

A Home School Legal Defense Association member family was then called by the school district on their unlisted phone number because the family refused to submit the unnecessary information. The family became alarmed when the school district called multiple times, including before 7 in the morning. HSLDA Senior Counsel Chris Klicka responded with a letter to the school, requiring that they cease contacting the family. Ever since, the early-morning phone calls to this member family have stopped.
