Bills Affecting Homeschoolers Die In Legislature

Two bills making public school resources available to homeschoolers died at the end of the 2006 legislative session. House Bill 2904 introduced by Representative Harry Brooks (District 19) and Senate Bill 2782 introduced by Senator Jamie Woodson (District 6) would have required school districts to (1) permit homeschool students to enroll in up to two classes at public school at no charge; (2) make available to homeschools all public school curricula, including reading plans and lesson plans for teacher use; (3) make teacher training available to homeschooling parents; and (4) make nonconsumable education materials for public school teachers available to homeschooling parents. Both bills failed to get beyond their respective committee assignments before the General Assembly closed.

Home School Legal Defense Association took a neutral position on this legislation.
