HSLDA Answers Confusing Letter in Youngstown
March 14, 2006

The case: School officials in Youngstown sent out a confusing letter to homeschoolers, which seemed to indicate on one hand that homeschoolers were required to take the school's testing, and on the other hand that it was optional.

HSLDA action: We wrote a letter to the school, explaining that the school's testing was not mandatory for homeschoolers under state law.

Results: Youngstown City School District is now aware of the problems with their testing letter, and has been put on notice that they should be clearer—and more accurate in complying with state law—in the future.
