District Responds Favorably to HSLDA Request

A member family in Lancaster, Ohio contacted HSLDA with concerns about correspondence they received from their local school district which included, among other things, an arbitrary deadline for when parents are required to submit end-of-year assessment results. HSLDA Staff Attorney Thomas Schmidt quickly responded by writing a letter to the district clarifying the legal requirements for homeschooling and requesting that the district revise its standard correspondence to accurately reflect Ohio homeschool law.

Within 10 days, Lancaster City Schools had revised its notification form and standard correspondence as requested. The district sent a letter of thanks to HSLDA, including a copy of its updated paperwork, welcoming any further comments or concerns. While some school districts may seem hostile towards homeschoolers, Lancaster City Schools made it a priority to ensure accuracy in its communication with homeschoolers. HSLDA applauds this exemplary conduct.
