Shawnee R-III School District Sends "Homeschool Application"

Kathleen Nepple, Superintendent of the Shawnee R-III School District, sent a letter to all homeschooling families requesting they fill out a form, entitled, "Home Schooling Application." The form asked for the homeschool students' names and ages, the homeschool address, and the signature of the parent. It implied that families were required to return the form. In fact, families are not required to fill out any form.

HSLDA staff contacted Ms. Nepple and explained the problem. She was very apologetic and agreed that her letter and form may have been inappropriate. She immediately drafted a letter to the families explaining that they are not required to return the form. She apologized for any inconvenience her original letter may have caused.

If you have received a "Homeschool Application" from your school district, discard it. Missouri law does not require that you fill it out and send it back.
