College Battle Won Without a Fight

The son of the McKays, HSLDA Minnesota members, had just finished his associate’s degree and wanted to switch to a different college to go on with his studies. He found that the colleges he contacted required a GED because he was homeschooled.

At one school, the student discussed pursuing options besides the GED. When he found there were no other options, he asked to speak to a higher authority at the college. When he finally spoke with the college official, the man only said, “If that’s what the admissions office is telling you, then that is what is required.”

The student informed the school official that if this was the college’s position, that he would be contacting the Home School Legal Defense Association. The school official got suddenly very quiet. After some silence, he informed the student that the college would move his application through.
