Michigan Social Worker Harasses Homeschool Family

The social worker at a local public school contacted a Home School Legal Defense Association member family multiple times—including three times in a single morning.

The school insisted that the family sign a homeschool form, which is not required by Michigan law. The family stopped answering the phone and was afraid to answer their door, in case the social worker had come to their home.

Because of this conduct, HSLDA Senior Counsel Chris Klicka responded with a letter to the school district. He explained that the family was homeschooling within the law and that they were not required to submit information regarding their home education, nor were they required to sign the school’s homeschool form.

Since then, the family has not heard from the public school and is answering the phone without fear.
