Olathe School District Yields on Records A member family in Olathe, Kansas, recently withdrew their children from public school and began homeschooling. However, when the family asked for the original copy of all their children's official school records, school officials refused. Kansas, unlike many other states, has a statute stating that original pupil records are the property of the pupil, and must be given to the pupil, parent, or nonpublic school upon request. Armed with this statute, HSLDA sent a letter demanding that the family's request be honored. Within a few days, the school district surrendered to the dictates of common sense and gave the family all of their children's original pupil records. |
