St. Francis Nursing Drops GED Demand
Ronnie Taylor (name changed to protect his privacy), a state-certified EMT with a 4.0 grade point average at his local community college, applied to St. Francis Medical Center College of Nursing in Peoria, Illinois, but was told that a homeschooler must have a GED. Their website said, “homeschooled applicants are required to take the GED.”
Members of Home School Legal Defense Association, the Taylors asked us for help.
HSLDA Senior Counsel Scott Woodruff wrote a letter to the director of admissions asking that the institution stop asking homeschoolers for a GED. The president of the college wrote Woodruff back and said that the issue was on the agenda of the Admission and Progression Committee of the college.
Not long thereafter, the college notified Ronnie that they had changed their policy, no longer required a GED for homeschoolers, and that he was being admitted.
