DuPage County Requests Unnecessary Registration

The Home School Legal Defense Association was recently alerted by a member family in DuPage County that they received a letter dated February 8, 2008, from the regional superintendent asking the family to register their homeschool with the county. Enclosed in the letter was a homeschool registration form that correctly noted that the registration was voluntary.

As a courtesy, Senior Counsel Chris Klicka sent the superintendent a letter explaining that the family was operating a bona fide homeschool program that met the law of the state, and that the family was respectfully declining to register their homeschool program since they are not legally required to do.

If you receive a similar letter from your regional superintendent, please be assured that the registration and filling out of any forms enclosed is completely voluntary.
