Will County Accuses Member Family of Truancy
On September 27th 2005, a representative from the Will County Regional Office of Education contacted an HSLDA member family regarding their daughter’s absence from school.
Our member family had recently withdrawn their daughter from public school to begin homeschooling. Shortly thereafter they were accused of truancy. Consequently, the family contacted HSLDA.
HSLDA Attorney, Darren Jones, drafted a letter to the state official to resolve the matter quickly. In the letter, he explained that according to Illinois law the family was operating a legal homeschool and verified that the family was operating a bona fide homeschool program. Mr. Jones specified that any further contact with the family should be directed to him.
Since HSLDA’s intervention the family has not heard from the Will County Regional Office of Education.
