Charleston School District Requires Illegal Registration for Private Schools
An HSLDA member family contacted our offices because they received a letter from the Regional Superintendent of Schools in their district. The letter, dated August 1, 2005, included a “School Registration and Assurance Form” and a calendar.
The letter states that “If you are still home-schooling your child (children) please complete the enclosed 'School Registration’ form and return to the Regional Office of Education prior to due date listed on the application.”
In addition, the letter requests that homeschool families complete the enclosed calendar so that the office will be able to verify that the family’s child (children) are enrolled in a private school.
Homeschool families in Illinois are not required to register their homeschool, neither are they required to submit a calendar, or any other materials.
HSLDA staff sent a letter on our member family’s behalf, explaining that the Illinois homeschool law clearly states that registration forms and any additional information or materials are not required.
If your school district sends you any forms to fill out and return regarding your homeschool program, discard them, and contact our office immediately.
