Florida’s CHESS Homeschool Organization Hosts Contest to Benefit Elimu Nyumbani

Florida’s Christian Home Educators of the Sunshine State (CHESS) is sponsoring an art contest to raise money and supplies for Elimu Nyumbani, Kenya’s national homeschooling organization. The contest, entitled Heart to Heart: America and Kenya, will be held during the Southwest Florida Homeschool Conference, which is on March 6-7, 2009.

There is a small fee to participate in the contest, and each student can enter up to two projects. Any media is acceptable, though students must follow contest guidelines. Prominent Fort Myers-area artists will judge the artwork and award cash prizes, ribbons, and certificates.

All proceeds from the art contest will be donated to Elimu Nyumbani. In addition to the art, each student is required to submit a one-page essay describing his or her experiences as a member of a homeschooling family. The art and stories will be digitally formatted into an e-book for purchase at a later date, and the proceeds will be donated to the Kenyan homeschooling families. Homeschool families are also encouraged to bring art supplies—such as glue sticks, scissors, glitter, water colors, etc.—which will be donated to Elimu Nyumbani.

Families who are not able to attend the CHESS conference are welcome to mail students’ art projects and donations.
