Several Counties Illegally Requiring Evaluation Deadline

Homes School Legal Defense Association received reports from our members that Lake, Glades, Bradford, and Miami-Dade counties were setting a specific deadline by which the year-end evaluations of homeschoolers were due. This requirement is illegal.

HSLDA staff sent letters to each of these counties outlining the Florida homeschool law (which does not allow the school district to send a standard evaluation deadline for homeschoolers), and informing them that our members would not be following this bogus requirement. Evaluations are due a year from the date each family sends their notice of intent. Therefore, the evaluation deadline is a different date for each family.
