Colorado School District Sends Out Bogus Mandatory Form

An HSLDA member family alerted us to a form that the Logan County school district sent out this year, titled “Home School Notification.” Not only does the form require that the family include their child’s grade, school the child would be attending, name of the child’s instruction program, and whether or not the child would be participating in district classes and/or activities, but at the bottom of the form, in asterisks, it states, “This form needs to be completed each school year.”

Colorado statutes require that a parent “certify, in writing, only a statement containing the name, age, place of residence, and number of hours of attendance of each child enrolled in said program.” Logan County homeschoolers are not required to return the district’s form, nor are they required to provide any information on the form beyond the name, age, place of residence, and hours of attendance of their homeschooled children.

HSLDA staff sent a letter to the administrative office in the Logan County school district explaining the discrepancies in their form and requesting that a copy of the revised form be sent to HSLDA offices for review.
