California — Private Homeschool ISPs and Groups are Spared a Nightmare!

HSLDA is posting the following information from a Legislative NEWSFLASH by Roy Hanson and Jim Davis of Family Protection Ministries (FPM).

We are grateful to God for moving so miraculously to protect small nonprofit organizations such as private ISPs, support groups, FPM, CHEA, and other nonprofit private homeschool organizations.

SB 1262, sponsored by the Attorney General, and as originally written, would have burdened many homeschool and other nonprofit organizations with a bureaucratic nightmare of vague requirements, complex reporting, and very heavy penalties. Many of these organizations would have been severely crippled, if not destroyed, by these unnecessary regulations.

God opened the way for FPM to take a very active role in a group of advocates working directly with the Attorney General's Office. As a result, we saw God remove every one of the onerous provisions from this bill. The bad provisions were deleted one at a time as the sponsor bowed to pressure during lengthy and arduous negotiations. It was then passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor.

It has been our privilege to work with FPM. This would be an appropriate time to show our appreciation and support for Family Protection Ministries by sending a generous donation to FPM at PO Box 730, Lincoln, CA 95648-0730. All gifts are tax deductible and any gift of $40 or more in a calendar year will ensure receipt of FPM's Legal-Legislative Update newsletter for one year.
