SB 6 (Senator Alpert) was Defeated!

HSLDA is posting the following information from a Legislative NEWSFLASH by Roy Hanson and Jim Davis of Family Protection Ministries (FPM).

We thank God for the Legislature's defeat of SB 6, resulting in the preservation of our healthy relationship with the California Department of Education. The CDE will remain responsible for handling private school affidavits. In large part, because of your phone calls and prayers, the Education Master Plan Conference Committee voted down this proposal and then used this bill for another topic.

SB 6, would have moved almost all authority from the Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Department of Education to the Governor's appointed Secretary of Education. This reorganization would have undone many of the recent gains for which we have worked so hard, and would have affected the annual filing of private school affidavits in unknown ways.

No further action is necessary on SB 6. This issue will likely come back again next year.

We appreciate working closely with FPM on issues of concern to homeschoolers in California. Please show your appreciation for the work of Family Protection Ministries by sending a generous donation to FPM at PO Box 730, Lincoln, CA 95648-0730. All gifts are tax deductible and any gift of $40 or more in a calendar year will ensure receipt of FPM's Legal-Legislative Update newsletter for one year.
