Legislation for Participation in Public School Activities

The Legislature of Alabama is considering two bills which would affect the right of students being taught at home to participate in extracurricular activities at public and nonpublic schools. House Bill 440 would authorize students taught by private tutors and those taught at home in a church school to participate in extracurricular activities at public and nonpublic schools, if the nonpublic school permitted it. Senate Bill 53 would permit children being taught by a private tutor and those enrolled in private and church schools to participate in extracurricular activities at the public school, provided the private and church schools did not offer such activities.
