Compulsory education: 5–16 Legal status of homeschooling: Homeschooling is legal, according to § 80 of the Education Act (2005) and is further regulated by the Education (Home-based Education) Regulations from 2011. The Home-based Education Regulations state that families must provide an annual “written notification and the necessary documentation,” which includes a written education plan and a declaration of intent, to the Chief Education Officer for approval (§ 5, 16). The regulations also stipulate teacher qualifications (§ 13), biannual assessments (§15), and annual portfolio requirements (§ 17) and progress reports (§ 18).
