Sample Letter To German Ambassador on Behalf of Robinsons

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: Please use the sample letter below for writing the German ambassador on behalf the Robinson family, homeschooling American missionaries.

Dear Ambassador Scharioth:

I am writing to ask you to assist the Robinsons, an American family, being threatened with deportation from Germany because they homeschool their children. Mr. and Mrs. Robinson applied for a temporary visa to do missionary work in Germany, but were denied because they are homeschoolers. They appealed the denial and lost, and are now being threatened with deportation while the matter is pending. I am asking you to contact Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann in Bavaria and ask him to stay any deportation proceedings while the Robinsons seek permission to file another appeal within the German Court system.

As you know, millions of American children are homeschooled effectively. I find German domestic policy on homeschooling to be inconsistent with the policy of all other freedom-loving western nations. I am shocked and frightened to witness how parents who wish to homeschool their children are treated. Though German courts defend their decisions by insisting that homeschooling creates parallel societies, international experience has conclusively proven that this belief is false. While the courts may continue to repress the human rights of German parents, political leaders in Germany have an obligation to do something to protect these innocent families from persecution. I am shocked that Germany actually fines families thousands of euros (like the Neubronners in Bremen and many others), terminates parental custody of children (like the Busekros family in Nurenburg), and puts mothers and fathers in jail (Like Katerina Schmidt and others) because they homeschool their children. These are not the actions of a democratic, free society but rather, the behavior of a repressive government.

American media have reported that the laws against homeschooling originate from the time when Hitler was dictator. Is this the kind of law Germany wants to perpetuate? Please use your influence to tell German politicians that Americans (along with Germany's European Union partners) do not accept this treatment of homeschoolers and that we expect German political leadership to do something about it.
