Hear it from the Judges

Being able to make a point with strength and clarity, and in an interesting manner so people will want to hear it, is a craft that is too often neglected.

Many famous speakers and fictional writers also developed the skill of strong, argumentative essay writing. Mark Twain, Oscar Wilde, Edgar Allan Poe, C.S. Lewis—they all used the powerful tool of essay writing.

Essay writing helps develop thinking skills as well since a well-written one forces you to think out your argument from different angles so you can communicate fully and clearly. Read some strong essays before beginning your own. Find ones you like and examine the techniques they use that you find engaging and convincing.

This contest is meant to encourage homeschool students to learn and develop the skills of clear, powerful writing.
