Dear South Carolina Members:

By virtue of the Equal Access to Interscholastic Activities Act passed by the South Carolina General Assembly in 2012, homeschool students now have the right to participate in interscholastic activities in public school. The law defines interscholastic activities to include, but not limited to, “athletics, music, speech, and other extracurricular activities.”

If you have a child who has been denied participation in an interscholastic activity, we would like to know which activity and the school district where you live. Also, if you have been successful in having your child participate in an interscholastic activity, we would like the same information. We are trying to determine the prevalence of the denial of the right to participate in South Carolina, as this will help us decide how best to address it. In this regard, please contact my legal assistant, Daniel Davis, at legalH@hslda.org . Thank you for taking to time to assist us in this in this matter.
