Dear Colorado Members and Friends,

Yesterday, House Bill (HB) 1288, which changes the immunization personal exemption requirements, was introduced into the Senate. This bill passed the House earlier this week, but with an important amendment: those who file a homeschool notice of intent and do not enroll in any of the “schools” defined in the bill for additional classes are exempt from the new immunization requirements. However, homeschoolers operating under the independent school statute are not exempt and still must “certify” that they are informed about immunizations before being able to claim a personal exemption.

The bill was introduced into the Senate State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee. Please take a moment to contact the committee members below especially if you are their constituent.

Action Requested

Please contact the Senate, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee and give them the following messages in your own words:

“I am calling to oppose House Bill 1288 that would require parents to receive a certification of knowledge before obtaining a personal belief exemption to immunization. Parents with personal objections to immunizations should not be interfered with in order to exercise their freedom to make appropriate medical decisions for their children. Parents can decide what is best for their families without burdensome government requirements or intervention like this. Please vote against HB 1288.”

You can contact the members of the committee using the following contact information:

Very truly yours,
