Lobby for Homeschool Bill
Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:
On March 17, 2014, the Pennsylvania House Education Committee conducted a hearing on House Bill 1013, legislation that would remove superintendents from evaluating home education programs. Many homeschooling families attended the hearing to show their support for this important legislation. But more must be done to convince legislators to pass this bill.
On Wednesday, April 2, beginning at 12:30 p.m., the Christian Homeschool Association of Pennsylvania (CHAP) is sponsoring its Home Education Lobby Program (HELP) at the Capitol in Harrisburg. Homeschooling families attending the 2014 CHAP HELP Day will have the opportunity to meet their state legislators and express their support of HB 1013. Additionally, at 2:30 p.m. that day, we will have a town hall meeting in the rotunda, at which time I will speak briefly on the history of the homeschool law in Pennsylvania and address any questions about the current legislation. I look forward to seeing you there. To get more information about the lobbying event, please click here.
The House Education Committee has not yet voted on HB 1013. Members of the Committee need to know that homeschoolers want them to take action and vote in favor of this legislation. If it does not pass this session, it is unlikely that it or a similar bill will pass in the foreseeable future.
(1) Please call or email (both would be better) members of the House Education Committee with this message or something similar in your own words:
“Please vote for House Bill 1013 which would improve the homeschool law of Pennsylvania. It would remove the unnecessary double evaluation of home education programs and streamline administrative procedures for both school districts and parents.”
