Action TODAY Needed to Defeat SF 106
February 28, 2014
Dear Wyoming Members and Friends,
Senate File (“SF”) 106 is moving fast through the legislature and it will pass without your intervention.
On Wednesday, the bill passed in the Senate and was been introduced into the House Education Committee. Already, the committee has heard and passed the bill and placed it on the general file for the House. SF 106 spends tax payer money to create a special session to review last year’s creation of the unconstitutional position of “Director of Education.” We need you to contact your representative right now!
Please email your representative immediately and urge them to oppose SF 106. Use the Subject line—“Oppose SF 106.” In your own words, give the committee members the following message:
“I am writing to oppose Senate File 106. Transferring the duties of the state superintendent was ruled unconstitutional by the Wyoming Supreme Court, and there is no need to revisit a law that takes away power from the people’s representative to an unelected one. With an election in nine months, calling for a special session is also a waste of taxpayer funds–especially in light of the Supreme Court’s response. Please vote no to SF 106.”
Last year’s last legislation, which created the new position of “Director of Education,” transferred the duties and authority from the constitutionally empowered and elected State Superintendent of Schools. This past January, the Wyoming Supreme Court declared this transfer of power unconstitutional.
Now, some state legislators are trying again to bypass the constitution and the people’s elected representative by passing SF 106 to hold a special session in response to the court’s decision. It has been reported that the subject matter of the special session would be to try to pass another law that would attempt to undermine the office of the elected state superintendent.
Thank you for all you do in defense of freedom for families in the great state of Wyoming!
Very truly yours,
Michael P. Donnelly, Esq.
