February 3, 2014

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends,

Please join the rally and legislative hearing this week and help send a clear message to Michigan legislators that the battle against Common Core is not over.

The Common Core at the Capitol event is organized by Stop Common Core in Michigan and takes place on Wednesday, February 5, 2014. The event will start at 12:30pm and be held in room 810 of the Farnum Building located at 125 West Allegan in Lansing. At 2:30pm, there may be an opportunity to attend the legislature’s joint committee hearing on the Common Core aligned “Smarter Balanced Assessments.”

RSVP for the event on Facebook.

I will be joined at the event by Dr. Terrance Moore Professor of History at Hillsdale College. At the event both Dr. Moore and I will speak out against the Common Core. Later that day we will testify, along with you, before a joint committee of the Michigan legislature. Some in the legislature, including many republicans, would like to believe that the fight against common core is over since the legislature passed concurrent resolution 11/S-4 in October. A strong showing at this hearing will let them know that opposition to Common Core isn’t going away – its growing!

The Common Core State Standards were adopted because of Federal money with little public input across the country, including Michigan. These standards have the potential to impact the educational freedom of all Michigan citizens and politicians all over America are scrambling as citizens become increasingly vocal and displeased about this take-over of education. You have a chance to be part of this groundswell of opposition!

Thank you for all you do in defense of freedom for families in the great state of Michigan! I hope to see you next week in Michigan.

Very truly yours,
