Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:

Yesterday God blessed religious homeschool families in an amazing way in guiding the studies sub-committee of the Rules Committee to overwhelmingly reject HJ 92, Delegate Rust’s efforts to throw Virginia’s religious exemption into turmoil. Thank you for your phone calls, visits, and emails to your delegates! Your message was so loud and so clear that only one delegate voted in favor of HJ 92 yesterday.

No one testified in support of HJ 92 except for Delegate Rust himself. I testified against the measure along with representatives of Home Educators Association of Virginia and the Organization of Virginia Homeschoolers. A homeschool graduate gave powerful testimony against the measure. Two others stood up to show their opposition.

Delegate Rust simply could not make his case that a study was needed.

In light of the above, I will not be visiting the offices of delegates on Tuesday to talk about HJ 92. I will, however, be speaking at the Capitol Day sponsored by Home Educators Association of Virginia on February 4, and I hope to see you there!

Action Requested

No further action is needed, unless you want to call your delegate and thank him or her for opposing HJ 92. The vote in sub-committee means that the measure will not receive any further consideration by the general assembly.

Thank you for standing with us for freedom!

Sincerely,

Scott A. Woodruff
Senior Counsel, HSLDA
