Dear HSLDA Members and Friends,

The Committee on Education of the Council of the District of Columbia is holding a hearing on Legislative Bill 528 on Tuesday, February 4 at 10 a.m. Legislative Bill 528 was originally introduced to provide high school students with scholarship grants to attend post-secondary institutions, but excluded homeschool and privately educated students. The committee members are considering amendments, however, to include homeschool students as eligible for scholarships. President of the DCHEA, Ethan Reedy, has told HSLDA that the new amendments are positive and would address the concerns of homeschoolers previously excluded.

We are asking our members and friends to attend this meeting to show the committee that homeschoolers care about these issues of educational scholarships and equal treatment. The bill proponents are hoping that a strong show of support will convince the rest of the council members to support the overall concept of scholarship for D.C. students.

The Feb. 4 hearing will take place in Room 500 of the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C. 20004. If you can attend, please RSVP online at the D.C. Home Educators Association website.

Thank you for your support of homeschooling in the District of Columbia!

Very truly yours,

Michael P. Donnelly, Esq.
Your HSLDA Staff Attorney
