Dear Wisconsin HSLDA Members and Friends,

During the Tuesday, November 5 hearing about the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, your Senator Ron Johnson was a true leader. As a member of the committee, Senator Johnson asked probing, well-thought-out questions to the witnesses on the panel.

You may watch Senator Johnson’s five minutes of questions to the witnesses 1 hour and 43 minutes into the hearing.

He asked two major questions. The first one showed that even though supporters of the UNCRPD claim the treaty is merely a nice resolution in support of disability rights, the actual text of the treaty mandates that nations which ratify the treaty must make significant changes to their laws. The second question underscored that since the U.S. is already the world leader in advancing the freedom and dignity of persons with disabilities, there is no real reason for the U.S. to ratify this United Nations treaty.

Please take a moment to call and email Senator Johnson and thank him for attending the hearing and for asking important questions. Please also thank him for his vote against the UNCRPD last year, and ask him to continue to fight against this dangerous United Nations treaty.

Senator Johnson’s D.C. office number is 202-224-5323. You may also send him a short thank-you email.

To find out more about the CRPD please click here. To read the text of the CRPD please click here.

Thank you for encouraging Senator Johnson in his stand against the UNCRPD.

For liberty,

Mike Smith
President, HSLDA
