Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:

Attention all homeschooling families in the Questar III area! As many of you know, some of your local school districts have contracted with the Questar III BOCES to oversee your homeschool paperwork. HSLDA has contacted Questar III numerous times over the past few years as several families have been unnecessarily flagged for attention.

Most of these families have had one thing or another in their individualized home instruction plan (IHIP) singled out as being “not in compliance” with Section 100.10. In our experience most of these issues have actually been found to be in compliance after review by our staff. Because of these and other issues, Hoosick Falls has requested a meeting with Questar III staff.

While the meeting tonight is mainly focused on Hoosick Falls, we believe that some of you may want to attend as well. HSLDA Staff Attorney Tj Schmidt will be in attendance as well as several LEAH leaders.

We are concerned about the prior behavior of Questar III staff as well as their stated desire to “provide resources and information regarding the Common Core State Standards” in these meetings. In additional, we understand that Questar III staff may extend these meetings to other regions/districts. While families were requested to RSVP by Monday, you should still be able to attend. If you want to RSVP to Questar III you can email them at HomeSchool@questar.org or phone (518) 479-6871.

This is the information from Questar III about the meeting:

“Questar III will provide an open house for families of Home Instructed students on October 22nd from 6:00-7:30PM. An overview of the 2013-2014 process, documentation, resources, timeline and procedures will be provided in an effort to support communication between Questar II and our Home Instruction families. Participants will also be provided resources and information regarding the Common Core State Standards.”

The location of the meeting will be at the Hoosick Falls High School Library at 21187 New York 22 in Hoosick Falls, NY 12090. We should have a good turnout of local families in the Hoosick Falls district and hope to see some of you there as well.

Sincerely,

Tj Schmidt
HSLDA Staff Attorney
