Dear Michigan Members and Friends,

House Concurrent Resolution 11 is being considered by the Senate and may be voted on as early as today. If passed, this resolution would allow the state Department of Education to spend money implementing Common Core Standards, including federally controlled SMARTER tests.

HSLDA opposes Common Core in its entirety and supports complete repeal. However, in this case sources have told HSLDA that the best outcome that is achievable is to remove federal requirements such as “SMARTER” tests from the resolution. HSLDA is working with opponents to Common Core to support a full repeal, but at this time we ask that you contact your senator and ask that he or she vote for an amendment to remove the SMARTER tests.

Action Requested

Please contact your own senator and give him or her the following message in your own words:

“Please vote to amend HCR 11 to remove the requirement for federally controlled SMARTER tests. These tests facilitate the increasing federalization of education with the potential to infringe upon the liberty of all parents to direct the education of their children. Please vote to amend HCR 11 or oppose the bill if it is not amended.”

You can find the contact information for your own senator online.

For more reasons to oppose the Common Core or for more information, visit our website.

Thank you for all you do in defense of freedom for families in the great state of Michigan!

Very truly yours,

Michael P. Donnelly, Esq.
