URGENT Calls Needed NOW to Protect Parental Rights

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends,

It is reported that an amendment will be offered to Senate Bill 215
that will prohibit or restrict parents in choosing health care
providers for their children under 8 years old. The amendment would
restrict parents from taking their children to "alternative" health
care providers.

We expect the amendment to be submitted again for a vote TODAY, May 6,
2013 when the bill comes up for a second reading this morning.

Please contact your representative IMMEDIATELY and give him or her the
following messages in your own words:

"I am calling to oppose SB 215 that would restrict a parent's right to
choose health care providers for their children. Parents have a
fundamental right to make decisions concerning the care of their
children. SB 215 robs parents of these decisions and violates their
parental rights. Please vote against SB 215 and specifically against
any amendment that would prohibit parents from taking their children
to alternative or other health care providers."

Last Friday, Representative Dave Young offered an amendment to Senate
Bill 215 that would prohibit parents from taking their children ages
2-8 to alternative health care providers without the permission of a
pediatrician. For children under age 2, the amendment would have
prohibited parents from seeking medical assistance from an alternative
health care provider for any reason, even with the support of a
pediatrician. While the amendment initially failed, we expect it to be
brought up again today.

Thank you for all you do in defense of freedom for families in the
great state of Colorado!

Very truly yours,

-> How long are you in for?

Some families are facing what seems like a lifelong commitment to
homeschooling, with children at both ends of the spectrum -- some
graduating and some just reaching school age. If you're going to
be "in" for a while, consider a lifetime membership with HSLDA.
It's a good deal for families with more than 10 years of
homeschooling ahead.
