Tennessee--Capitol Hill Rally & Reception Day

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:

Homeschool Rally Day is coming to your area on Tuesday, April 16,
2013, from 8:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This event is organized by the
Tennessee Home Education Association (THEA) and will be held in
Nashville at the State Capitol.

During the program beginning at 8:45 a.m., Dr. Michael Farris will be
speaking at the War Memorial Auditorium about national and
international issues impacting home education, parental rights, and
religious liberties, including his defense of the Romeike family. Uwe
and Hanna Romeike and their five children will be there at this event.
From 1:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Dr. Farris will conduct a "Constitutional
Boot Camp" for parents and students interested in learning more about
the United States Constitution. Christian Communicators of Tennessee
will also host a Student Congress Tournament during the afternoon. In
addition, throughout the day, you will have opportunities to meet with
your legislators, deliver them a cookie gift bag, and take a tour of
the Capitol Building.

We at HSLDA believe it is very important for as many homeschool
families as possible to attend this event. In my 22 years at HSLDA, I
have seen how effective capitol lobby days are in preventing bad
legislation. A face-to-face meeting between a legislator and a
homeschooling family gives the legislator the opportunity to see
firsthand the positive benefits of homeschooling. Informed
homeschooling constituents who meet with and demonstrate interest in
their legislator's activities provide that legislator with reasons to
vote in favor of maintaining homeschool freedom. If a legislator never
meets a homeschooler, he may have no reason to support parental
freedom to homeschool and may vote against homeschooling if presented
with the issue.

Below are even MORE reasons to attend this event:

> To dispel any negative myths of the homeschool movement;
> To give legislators an understanding of the large numbers of
homeschoolers within the state; and
> To show legislators that the homeschool movement is alive and well.

For more information about this event, please visit THEA's website at

We are keenly aware that our parental and homeschool freedoms are best
preserved when we all stand together to defend them. Please pass this
information along to your support groups and homeschool families that
you know.

We hope you can attend this year!
