1. Whose Children are They?

In an MSNBC promo, Melissa Harris-Perry promotes the radical and
controversial idea that "we have to break through our kind of private
idea that kids belong to their parents." Sadly, this isn't a new idea.

.....................................................................
2. The Romeike Story

German homeschoolers Uwe and Hannalore Romeike faced fines, threats of
imprisonment, and possible loss of custody of their children--simply
for homeschooling. Although they left everything, fled to the United
States, and were granted asylum, the U.S. has revoked their legal
status and is seeking to send them back to Germany. Could their case
impact U.S. homeschool freedom?

Watch their story:

3. National Databases Collecting Student-Specific Data

Recent efforts to make states share their student information with the
federal government could have dire consequences for individual
privacy. HSLDA has learned that at least one state's database includes
information on homeschoolers.

4. Rhyme It to Win It!

That's right: HSLDA's 9th annual Poetry Contest is underway! Students
ages 7-19 can win generous cash prizes while exercising their
creativity in an exciting experience. The category prompts have been
intentionally chosen to leave your children the most room for fun and
ingenuity! Spread the word to any imaginative students and follow the
link below for complete information.

9. "Home School Heartbeat": The Romeike Case

The German homeschooling Romeike family sought asylum in the United

threatening to send them back to Germany, where they will be forced to
stop homeschooling. Mike Farris explains how you can help, on this
week's "Home School Heartbeat."
