New Mexico--Reminder to Submit Annual Notice of Intent (and get your
early registration discount for CAPE-NM Convention)

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends,

This is a friendly reminder for those operating under New Mexico's
homeschool law that the annual notice of intent is due April 1.
According to New Mexico law, homeschool families are required to
annually notify the state superintendent that they are homeschooling
within 30 days of establishing their homeschool program and by April 1
each year after.

This notice must include the name of the school district in which the
family lives as well as the parents' name, address, and name and age
of each school-age child being educatedat home. It is not necessary to
actually notify your local school district that you are homeschooling.

File Online

The notice can be done on the New Mexico Public Education Department
website or via mail. To file the notice online, go to
http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=17837 and follow the directions.

Please note that if you began homeschooling this school year and filed
online for the 2012-2013 school year, you will need to file another
notice for the 2013-2014 school year. Use the dropdown menu to select
the 2013-2014 school year option for the notice to be received by the
Public Education Department for this upcoming school year.

File By Mail

If you choose to file your notice via mail, feel free to use our form
which can be found at http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=17838 (access
for members only). In addition to our form, you can also use the
printable PED form which can be found at
http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=17839 , or you can use CAPE's form:
http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=17840 .

The form can then be mailed to Public Education Department--Home
School Division, 300 Don Gaspar, Santa Fe, NM 87501-2786. Be sure to
indicate that the form is for the 2013-2014 school year in the
appropriate blank.

Help the Romeike Family

In other news, perhaps you've heard of HSLDA's current fight to defend
the German Romeike family from deportation. After the Romeikes faced
fines, losing custody of their children, and the threat of
imprisonment as a homeschooling family in Germany, they moved to the
United States seeking asylum for educational freedom. HSLDA is
currently defending them in the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. Click
here http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=17841 for more information and
to sign the petition to the White House to stop the deportation of the
Romeikes.

Sincerely,

Thomas J. (Tj) Schmidt
