Kansas--Historic Religious Freedom Bill Sails Through Legislature

Dear HSLDA Kansas Members and Friends,

We often accuse politicians of dithering and delaying. But every
Kansan can be proud today!

Showing courage, leadership and efficiency, the Kansas Senate
yesterday by an overwhelming margin of 34 to 4 passed a bill, HB 2203,
which will give "state of the art" protection to religious freedom,
after a similar lopsided favorable vote in the Kansas House.

We are on the doorstep of a new era when Kansans will control their
own destiny on religious freedom. After Governor Brownback signs the
bill, Kansas will join 16 other states with religious freedom
protection statutes.

Thank you for your phone calls in support of HB 2203! You helped give
the bill tremendous momentum.

If your senator or representative is NOT on the list below of those
who voted "no," please call and thank him or her for standing up for
freedom on HB 2203.

The following lawmakers voted no on HB 2203: SENATORS: Francisco,
Haley, Hawk and Hensley; REPRESENTATIVES: Ballard, Becker, Bollier,
Bridges, Carlin, Doll, Kuether, Lane, Lusk, Rooker, Sloan, Sloop,
Tietze and Winn.

Use our Legislative Toolbox or another source to find the name of your
senator or representative. (Be sure to type in your ZIP code: )

The Senate Committee on the Judiciary voted in favor of the bill on
Wednesday. The next day, Thursday, March 21, the Senate held its final
