====================================================================== From HSLDA ... ====================================================================== Come to NCHEA 2013 Conference and Curriculum Fair in Lincoln--April 12-13 Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: Less than two weeks ago, HSLDA Chairman Mike Farris was in the Nebraska Supreme Court to both defend a homeschooling family charged with truancy and to prevent a prosecution from rewriting Nebraska's homeschool law. ( http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=17637 ) As a member of HSLDA's litigation team, I found this a sobering reminder that freedom is always just one step away from extinction. It is also a timely reminder of how important it is for the homeschool community in Nebraska to remain strong and vibrant. Without the leadership and support of a statewide homeschool support network, like the Nebraska Christian Home Educators Association (NCHEA), the fight for homeschool freedom in Nebraska could become stagnant or even see a full-scale attack on our right to teach our children at home. That is why I encourage you to attend the NCHEA 2013 Conference and Curriculum Fair on April 12 and 13! The two-day convention with special guest speakers Dr. Steve and Megan Scheibner, Dr. Larry Guthrie, and HSLDA's own Vicki Bentley will be held at Indian Hills Community Church, 1000 S. 84th Street, in Lincoln. Register Online >> http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=17638 There is still time to preregister for the NCHEA Conference. Go online to register today. Online registration will close at midnight on Wednesday, March 27. If you have never been to the NCHEA Conference, you don't want to miss this opportunity to spend a day focused on your family and your home education program. This convention will encourage you, challenge you, and provide plenty of shopping with various vendors for your homeschool curriculum needs. Building Families by Equipping Parents The keynote this year will be delivered by Dr. Steve Scheibner. Steve and his wife, Mary Ann, who developed a parenting course entitled Parenting Matters: The Nine Practices of the Proactive Parent, will share from their wealth of experience as homeschooling parents of eight children. The Scheibners will also be presenting a series of workshops on parenting issues, including how to be proactive in building a Christ-centered, character-driven home environment, and how to strengthen your marriage in the midst of parenting. The opening session and closing keynote will be delivered by Dr. Larry Guthrie, who currently serves as the Farm School Director at Harvest Home Farm, where he teaches and develops curriculum. Dr. Guthrie, who previously served with the Institute in Basic Life Principles, the Advanced Training Institute, and Character First, will share lessons, insights, and biblical principles gleaned from his years as a writer, an educator, and a father. Vicki Bentley, director of HSLDA's Toddlers to Tweens and Group Services programs, will also be presenting a number of workshops designed to both provide big-picture perspective and encouragement, as well as to tackle the everyday challenges of teaching your child at home. Whether life is broadsiding your homeschool, you are struggling with learners at different stages of life, or you could use some tips on being more organized, Vicki will have something for everyone. Your attendance at the NCHEA Conference will refresh you and your family in your homeschooling endeavors while also supporting NCHEA in their service to the homeschool community. Please plan now to come to Indian Hills Community Church at 1000 S. 84th Street in Lincoln on April 12-13!
