====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== New York: Come to the LEAH Downstate Conference on Long Island March 16! Dear Members and Friends; The 11th Annual New York Loving Education at Home (LEAH) Downstate Homeschool Convention is just around the corner! The all-day convention with special guest speakers Dr. Bruce and Mary Ann Eagleson and the curriculum vendor hall is on March 16. The convention is from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Patchogue. A full lunch is included. For more information about the convention schedule go to: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=17505 . HSLDA Staff Attorney Tj Schmidt will also be speaking about the State of Homeschooling in New York. He will cover some recent situations HSLDA has dealt with across the state as well as some of the legislation we are currently tracking. Tj will also offer tips and suggestions on what do if you are contacted by child protective services (CPS) or local school officials; some do's and don'ts when at home or out during the day. There should be time for questions after his presentation. There is still time to pre-register for the Downstate Convention. Go to http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=17506 to register today. Online registration will close at midnight on Wednesday, March 13. After that you will have to register at the door. Remember, if you register for the March 16 Convention you will also be able to attend the June 8 Downstate Convention, which will feature local homeschool workshops, used curriculum and Christian college vendor hall! If you have never been to the LEAH Downstate Convention, you don't want to miss your opportunity to spend a day focused on your family and your home education program. This all-day convention will encourage you, challenge you, and provide plenty of shopping with various vendors for your homeschool curriculum needs. The keynote speakers this year are Dr. Bruce and Mary Ann Eagleson. The Eaglesons will speak on Does God Want You to Homeschool-Catching the Vision in the morning and then over lunch the men and women will split up. Mary Ann will lead the Ladies' Luncheon with an encouraging and uplifting message while the men will hear a panel of homeschool fathers focusing on Men Mentoring Adolescents (MMA). We believe it is vitally important that the homeschool community in New York remain strong and vibrant to ensure that homeschool freedoms are protected and enlarged. Without the leadership and support of a statewide homeschool support network like LEAH, the fight for homeschool freedom in New York could become stagnant or even see a full-scale attack on our right to teach our children at home. Your attendance at the 11th Annual LEAH Downstate Convention will refresh you and your family in your homeschooling endeavors while also supporting LEAH in their service to the homeschool community. Please plan now to come to the First Baptist Church of Patchogue on 482 North Ocean Avenue on March 16! > To find more information the 11th Annual LEAH Downstate Convention go to: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=17507 . > To preregister for the Convention go to: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=17506 . When you come to the LEAH Convention be sure and stop by the Home School Legal Defense Association table and say "Hi." As a bonus at the LEAH conference we have two special offers for members: > If you join or renew your membership at the conference for one year, you'll receive $10 off your membership (at the conference only). > If you join or renew at the conference for two years, you will receive $25 off your membership (at the conference only). Additionally, if you bring someone to our table who joins at the conference, we'll give you another $10 coupon for your recommendation--which you can apply toward membership (at the conference only) or HSLDA products.
